They are beyond rare, I have seen 5 counting this one that are in the same class, Most are in private collections, 1 sold for $5000, another for $4000. This came out of a private collection to go right back into another. Usually they only stay this clear up to 40mm max, and those are far and few between as it is. These technically do not exist. An amazing Jewel by all standards. Smokey Phantom, Record Keepers & 5 Time Links, and a nice Rainbow visible from an angle in the right light. It has a growth anomoly on the main time link, I have examined it under a loupe, as did the miner and it is not a break but where the growth on the facet was briefly interrupted somehow during formation and instead of completing smooth like the other facets became bubbled and semi rough, a strange oddity.

This materials is beyond rare in this size, these were mined in the 1960s and have not been seen in at least 30 years. There was a certain layer where the pockets were richer in Carbon (anthraxolite) in the Middleville Area where the 2 main public mines now are. A piece about twice this size sold - littered with little AA grade Jewels - for $10,000. If you want to know just how expensive this stuff gets call the Mines and ask them - for those who know Herks, you know exactly what you are looking at :)

This comes from a private collection - Crystals from this location are very rare as it is a commercial stone quarry. And is not known for the smaller Jewels like this. Most crystals from this location are mid size to Large growth. Other mineral deposits are also known to occur. This crystal is extremely rare because it is a floater and has Marcasite & Pyrite spray / cluster with Ribbon like formations completely manifested within the crystal. Please click on the pictures for XL View of every detail. A few very minor nicks are present but do not take away from the overall asthetics. This is a very special Herkimer. I purchased 4 of these and this is by far the largest of them. A very thin part of the long ribbon comes right to the surface - see picture at top row #4. The Main Inclusion to me looks like a Praying Mantis - see the magnified pics! Also has a dolomite crystal attached - Picture 1 bottom.
